DISTRICT DAILY
District Daily is a conceptual newspaper using typographic and visual narratives to explore the persona of Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist of the series The Hunger Games. The experimental typographic executions are based on Katniss’s persona showcased through textures, objects and places symbolized through metaphors and deeper meaning behind her dialogues.
Role: Typography, Visual Narrative, Layout, Newspaper Design
Dangerous
Although underrated, Katniss’s dialogue “Stupid people are dangerous” is a strong line that outlines Katniss’s persona as a strategic and focused character. I chose to showcase the word “Dangerous” based on the forest arena where the games took place. In an environment like that, one never knows where the danger lies.

Survived
The Hunger Games was a series on survival. The games, the war, the pain, and the hardships made Katniss the survivor, the leader, the changemaker, and the heroine that she was. Inspired by her rough journey from a miner’s daughter under President Snow’s reign to a mother who brought peace to the districts, ‘survived’ is an exploration of Katniss’s life symbolized by the gemstone; Amethyst.

Fire
Katniss Everdeen; nicknamed The Girl on Fire, is known for her fierceness. But there are more layers to her, although she was the leader and the rebel, through all her toughness, Katniss has a sensitive and soft side to her which we see when it comes to her loved ones. The use of aloe vera represents the Girl on Fire’s fierceness but soft internal personality.

I Volunteer
I Volunteer!”- the most selfless move by Katniss to sacrifice herself when her sister Primrose was selected for the games. The concrete “I Volunteer” represents the wall-like figure that Katniss is when it comes to protecting her sister from any sort of danger.

Hanging
The Hanging Tree is a dark song that Katniss’s father used to sing to her. “The Hanging Tree” is written from the perspective of a man accused of murder and hung as punishment. The singer is the dead murderer who calls out his lover to join him to death. It’s a dark peaceful song which then becomes the theme song for the rebellion.
